‘Everyone except the blue collars’: Print shop employee hears that the suits upstairs all get $3500 bonuses for Christmas while warehouse workers get nothing, so he calls them out for their inequality

Some of us are relying on a Christmas bonus that'll never come... And the blue-collar employee in this next story is definitely one of us.

Companies always seem to be boasting of record profits and increased shareholder value, but when it comes to raises, they offer scant to none for those of us in the workforce who do all of the actual work. Naturally, that's not how the supply chain works though in most industries. If you're the one wearing a suit and shaking the hands of every investor and client who walks through the door, you're more likely to see bigger paychecks and bigger rewards for your efforts. So when this blue-collar print shop worker learned that the blokes upstairs with their shiny shoes and steam-pressed lapels were cashing in more than the guys creating the actual product, he lost it.

    We (as in humanity) just doesn't prioritize these things. If ending hunger suddenly became a top priority (like everyone in every country agreeing, even the warlords and billionaires) we could end it in like a month. And even if it took longer, it's still very very possible. It's like we forgot what the word "impossible" actually means.

    NATOuk I remember working for a New York hedge fund as a software developer. They paid the usual insanely big bonuses to the traders but because we were software we were considered 'non revenue generating' so we got a pittance as a bonus.

    fredblockburn It's like that in any field. The revenue generating roles get compensated well while any support functions are on a lower level. Usually quality revenue generating people are expensive/hard to replace.
