Just found out everyone gets $3500 Christmas bonuses except the blue collars like me. Holidays

I work in a print shop that is privately run by a huge actuarial firm. I made friends with a person in our direct client department who I print for frequently and we went out for cocktails. I learned
  • 04
that the whole entire employment benefits practice with thousands of dollars every December 20th for Christmas as a bonus and the print shop who busts our get all their compliance out on to
  • 05
time so we don't get fined - we get jack sh at Christmas. I checked and our little shop is some of the lowest paid people in the practice! And no Christmas bonus!!!! F f corporate America. And financial institutions more.

DaVeachi My ex brother in law told his wife about his six figure bonus one year and she went blabbing about it on Facebook and her plans for it within minutes. Company was NOT happy lol

zerombr I cannot imagine getting a life changing amount of money given to me as a bonus. I make 40k a year

Van-garde Being wealthy is the most profitable form of existence. Until real discussions about distributive justice are commonplace, the snowballing wealth will continue rolling over those of us who sell our time to survive.
  • 09
TheLastF Adding to this: anytime you hear someone talking about how there are too many people and not enough resources to go around (overpopulation), remind yourself (and them if it's
  • 10
socially appropriate) that what they are talking about is genocide of the poor and impoverished while the rich horde wealth. There is in fact only maldistribution of resources through capitalism, and there is plenty to go around if taking care of each other ever becomes our priority as a civilization.

Fodux This is the thing that annoys me when people say things like ending homelessness or hunger would be impossible. We have enough land, food, and building materials.
  • 12
We (as in humanity) just doesn't prioritize these things. If ending hunger suddenly became a top priority (like everyone in every country agreeing, even the warlords and billionaires) we could end it in like a month. And even if it took longer, it's still very very possible. It's like we forgot what the word "impossible" actually means.

NATOuk I remember working for a New York hedge fund as a software developer. They paid the usual insanely big bonuses to the traders but because we were software we were considered 'non revenue generating' so we got a pittance as a bonus.
  • 14
The irony of course is that without us developing the tools the traders used, they wouldn't be able to make any money at all. Didn't stay long
  • 15
fredblockburn It's like that in any field. The revenue generating roles get compensated well while any support functions are on a lower level. Usually quality revenue generating people are expensive/hard to replace.

450X FTW I remember when this happened at Chrysler. All employee email sent out saying how everyone is getting a $3000 mod year bonus because the company was doing so well. Then I was informed that did not apply to contact workers (me)

BeforeisAfter The goal of capitalism is for the capitalist class to get paid as much as possible with doing as little amount of work as possible. Which requires, getting the working class to work as much as possible
  • 18
while paying them the least amount as possible. The goal of the working class is to get into the capitalist class. The goal of the capitalist class is to keep the workers in the working class.
  • 19
The capitalist class steals from the working class. The workers create more value then they get compensated for. The capitalist class gets compensated for more value than they create.
